Marcha Patriótica anthem performed by Yuri Buenaventura

On an overcast Sunday, it´s good to take a little break from the corruption, intimidation and assassination which too often play a part in Colombian politics.

(Photo credit: marie_astier) Yuri Buenaventura has been a massive performer specializing in latin jazz, salsa and various other genres of Colombian music. He sold some 400,000 copies of his first album and frequently relates the social and economic challenges facing Colombian workers.

Though, as it´s good to remember, heroic Colombians frequently stand up to the corruption, intimidation and assassination in such inspiring ways.
One of those groups, the left-leaning coalition Unión Patriótica, was reportedly on the verge of folding earlier this week when its founder Piedad Córdoba announced the group is suffering the irreplaceable loss of 26 community leaders to assassination in the 2013.
Leaders of Colombia´s fractiously left, ignored their differences and gathered together in support of the Unión Patriótica.
Attached here is the link to the Unión Patriótica´s anthem, as performed by one of Colombia´s top latin jazz and salsa stars Yuri Buenaventura.
Buenaventura, a musician who composes songs to celebrate Colombia´s colourful culture and its glaring social challenges, mixes a variety of Colombian music forms in this tribute.

Thanks for sharing this music video – I’ll be adding it to my playlists! And for reminding us how courageous many Colombians are in standing up to oppression and injustice in the face of threats, intimidation and assassination.
